Complacency? or Interest? One will keep you safe.

Complacency is a lack of interest and concern, the enemy of safety. Companies take pride in their safety programs. But safety managers scratch their heads when an injury is caused by complacency. It can happen in an instant. A crew is loading heavy tools when a gloved hand happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a finger gets pinched, or smashed and cut. Out comes the first aid kit and a worker goes home with an injury.

Unacceptable under any circumstance, but especially when that worker is not interested in their job - The definition of complacency! Worse still when two workers suffer from complacency. Then neither have interest in their jobs or concern for themselves or their partner. Take complacency out of your vocabulary and replace it with concern and interest in your job. When workers are interested in what they are doing and concerned for their fellow workers they are, and will be safe. Everyone involved in the work must believe that no one should ever go home to their families with an injury.
